概要

当研究所では、熱帯バイオマスフラッグシッププロジェクトの一環として、JST-JICA SATREPSプロジェクトをインドネシア科学院（LIPI）と共同で進めている。本シンポジウムでは、同プロジェクトの成果報告会を兼ね、貧栄養な荒廃草原への効率的な施肥法確立、農地転用による生物多様性への影響評価、バイオマス作物の育種、低環境不可型バイオマス製品の製造に向けた研究報告を行うとともに、今後の方針に関する討議を行った。

目的と具体的な内容

東南アジアの森林伐採跡地では、アランアラン（Imperata cylindrica）などを優占種とする貧栄養の草原が広く分布しており、それらは林地・農地としての利用が困難とされている。インドネシア科学院（LIPI）、京都大学の共同で取り組んでいるJST-JICA SATREPSプロジェクトでは、貧栄養な荒廃草原をバイオマス生産圃場として利用することを目的とし、効率的な施肥法確立、農地転用による生物多様性への影響評価、バイオマス作物の育種、低環境不可型バイオマス製品の製造に向けた研究を行っている。当研究会では、SATREPSプロジェクトに取り組んでいる各研究グループの研究成果と今後の研究計画を報告した。またJST及びJICAの担当職員との意見交換を行った。具体的には、LIPIバイオロジー研究所・京大農学研究科（サブプロジェクト1：効率的な施肥法確立と農地転用による生物多様性への影響評価）、LIPIバイオテクノロジー研究所・京大生存圏研究所（サブプロジェクト2：バイオマス作物の育種）、LIPIバイオマテリアル研究所・京大生存圏研究所（サブプロジェクト3：低環境不可型バイオマス製品の製造）の研究成果と今後の研究計画を報告し、質疑・応答を行った。またプロジェクトの研究に関連する内容を対象として、インドネシア側及び日本側の学生および若手研究員によるポスターセッションを行った。

生存圏科学の発展や関連コミュニティの形成への貢献

生存圏研究所はイノベーションと国際化の強化を目的とした「生存圏科学の国際化とイノベーション強化」を提案しており、国際化の一環として、生存圏アジアリサーチノードを核とした生存圏科学の国際展開を計画している。また、2016年度からはJASTIP（日ASEAN科学技術イノベーション共同研究拠点－持続可能開発研究の推進）やSATREPSプロジェクト（熱帯荒廃草原の植生回復によるバイオマスエネルギーとマテリアル生産）などにも参画している。これらは、いずれも当研究所がインドネシアを中心とした海外拠点の強化を目指した動きであって、本研究会の開催はこれらのプロモーションのために重要である。また、本シンポジウムは京都大学研究連携基盤グローバル生存基盤展開ユニットの協賛としても開催しており、学内外の研究協力体制の一層の構築にむけて寄与している。この様に、本シンポジウムは、当研究所の国際研究協力体制の維持発展に資するところが大であるとともに、地球規模課題の解決（SDGs）の進展や生存圏科学科学の推進に寄与するところが大きい。
