概要

2017(平成29)年11月、インドネシア・ボゴール市にて生存圏科学スクールを開催し、国際生存圏科学シンポジウム(ISSH)も併催した。JASTIPやSATREPSなど多くの共催のもと生存圏科学全般についての講演および発表が行われ、199名の参加者が2日間にわたって活発な議論を展開した。

目的と具体的な内容

人類社会の持続的な生存を図るためには、地球環境全体に及ぼす影響の大きさからアジア熱帯域における「生存圏科学」の構築が不可欠である。本研究所は生存圏科学の構築に向けて強力な研究協力関係をインドネシア科学院(LIPI)やインドネシア航空宇宙庁(LAPAN)と結んでおり、これまで数多くの国際シンポジウムをインドネシアにおいて開催してきた。

特に若手研究者・学生と対象としたスクールを、2006(平成18)年から「木質科学スクール」として、2008(平成20)年度からは「生存圏科学スクール(HSS)」として実施してきた。さらに2011(平成23)年度からは、日本、インドネシア両国の学生および若手研究者による生存圏科学に関する研究発表の場として、国際生存圏科学シンポジウム(ISSH)もHSSの併催として行っている。

HSSは若手研究者・学生を対象とし、生存圏科学全般について最新の研究成果を紹介するとともに、生存圏科学の国際的かつ多面的な発展を企図した活動を維持発展させることを目的としている。日本人学生も参加・研究発表させることにより国際的な視野を持った研究者の育成も目指している。本年度は、ボゴール市のSalak Tower Hotelにおいて開催し、199名の参加を集め、生存圏科学に関連する科学技術について議論を深めた。また、本年度は総長裁量経費の支援を受けることができ、例年よりも多い若手研究者(大学院生・研究員)27名の参加が実現した。JASTIP(日ASEAN科学技術イノベーション共同研究拠点-持続可能開発研究の推進)やSATREPSプロジェクト(熱帯荒廃草原の植生回復によるバイオマスエネルギーとマテリアル生産)との共催により、関連研究者に講演いただくとともに、旅費の支援を得ることができた。

生存圏科学の発展や関連コミュニティの形成への貢献

本スクールは2006(平成18)年より生存圏科学の普及を目的として毎年開催しているものであり、年々、活発になっている。国際生存圏科学シンポジウムとの併催の効果もあり、生存圏科学に関わる多様な分野からの講義、研究発表が行われ、本年度は、昨年にも増して参加国、参加者も増え、国際的な生存圏科学の発展および関連コミュニティの形成に貢献している。
