The RISH Xylarium was founded in 1980 and registered in the Index Xylariorum with a code address of KYOw in 1978. Most samples are botanically authenticated, and some correspond to herbarium specimens. Collection and exchange of wood samples continues to the present day.
Cooperative research projects on wood anatomy, wood identification, and interdisciplinary wood science, i.e. wood and human culture, are ongoing. We also provide a course in wood identification.
Aged wood samples from historical buildings make a major contribution to research on wood culture and sciences.
