Dear Colleagues;
I am very pleased to invite you to the International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS) 2007 Annual Meeting held in Kyoto from October 25th to 27th, 2007. Kyoto is one of the most important cultural centers in Japan. For over 1,000 years Kyoto was the capital of Japan. Twenty percent of the national treasures of Japan can be found here. The participants of the conference will enjoy the atmosphere of ancient history. Seventy percent of our land is covered with beautiful mountains and the forest vegetation is particularly rich due to the long land bounded by latitudes 46° N and 24° N from Hokkaido in the northeast to the Ishigaki-jima Island in the southwest. This natural environment stimulated the development of the so-called the “culture of wood and paper” here in Japan. The conference will cover a wide range of topics in wood science and related subjects, environment, energy, materials, pulp and paper, biotechnology, wood structure and wood industry.
On behalf of the Conference Committee, I wish you fruitful conference toward sustainable society.
