Tour to the MU Radar (June 1)

Meeting place: JR Kyoto station HACHIJO exit, in front of Kyoto AVANTI building

Meeting place is the bus stop in front of the Kyoto Avanti building and the Hotel Keihan Kyoto Grande near the "JR Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit" on the south side of the Kyoto Station. The bus stop is located at the opposite side of the "Hachijo-Dori Street" from the Kyoto station. You can find the MK bus that display the destination sign of "Shigaraki MU Radar" at the front of the bus.

12:35-13:45 Traveling from Kyoto to the Shigaraki MU radar observatory by bus.

13:45-15:00 MU Radar tour

15:00-15:45 Moving to the pottery shop at Shigaraki

15:45-17:30 Traveling from Shigaraki to JR Kyoto Station

Note:

Please come to the meeting place by yourself. All participants need to pay their own costs for the travel expenses from Tachikawa to JR Kyoto station.
We prepare the round-trip shuttle bus between the Kyoto station and the observatory.
You can join this tour within one-day trip from Tachikawa.

* If you enjoy travelling in Japan, it is recommended to use a special fare plan for the travelers from overseas, called Japan Rail Pass. The cost for a 7-day Japan Rail Pass (29,110 yen), for example, roughly corresponds to the cost of a single return trip from Tokyo to Kyoto by the Shinkansen.

How to travel from Tachikawa to Kyoto? map

[1] Directions from Tachikawa to Kyoto by train via Tokyo-station
(One-way Fare: 14,250 yen, Time: approx. 3.5-4.0 hrs)

From Tachikawa to Tokyo, get on JR CHUO-Line bound for Tokyo.
From Tokyo to Kyoto, get on JR Tokaido-Sanyo SHINKANSEN-Line bound for Osaka, Okayama, or Hakata.

[2] Directions from Tachikawa to Kyoto by train via Shin-Yokohama-station
(One-way Fare: 13,590 yen, Time: approx. 3.3-3.8 hrs)

From Tachikawa to Hachioji, get on JR CHUO-Line bound for Takao or Hachioji.
From Hachioji to Shin-Yokohama, get on JR Yokohama-Line bound for Higashi-Kanagawa or Sakuragi-cho.
From Shin-Yokohama to Kyoto, get on JR Tokaido-Sanyo SHINKANSEN-Lin e bound for Osaka, Okayama, or Hakata.

Note: There are three types of train on the Tokaido SHINKANSEN-Line: the Nozomi, Hikari and Kodama. Although the Nozomi is the fastest train that travels between Kyoto and Tokyo, this train is not covered by the "Japan Rail Pass". If you use the "Japan Rail Pass", please use the Hikari or the Kodama.

Meeting place is the lobby of the JMA building. Nearest station is 'Takebashi Station' of Tokyo Metro.

Directions from Tachikawa to Takebashi by train
(One-way Fare: 390 yen + 200 yen, Time: approx. 1 hour)

From Tachikawa to Nakano, get on JR CHUO-Line bound for Tokyo.
From Nakano to Takebashi, get on Tokyo Metro Tozai-Line bound for Nishi-Funabashi, Toyo-Katsutadai, Toyocho, or Myoden.
