目的と具体的な内容
生存圏科学のうち、宇宙太陽発電と無線電力伝送のための国際学会である。本国際学会は米国 IEEE 主催の国際学会であり、MTT-S International Microwave Workshop Series として開催されるものである。本学会は世界的な注目を浴びるようになった無線電力伝送技術を、マイクロ波送電、共鳴送電、電磁誘導結合、エネルギーハーベスティングの 4 つの技術を中心として複合的に取り扱い、要素技術からアプリケーション、標準化まで幅広い階層での議論を行うために企画されたものである。本学会は世界で始めてとなる無線送電専門の国際学会であり、世界中で開催されてきた IMWS の日本発開催となる学会でもある。オーラルセッション 11 で 47 論文、ポスターセッション 1 で 21 論文、合計 68 論文、計採択率 87 % であった。Plenary speaker も日本、韓国、米国から 1 名ずつ招聘し、幅広い講演をいただいた。

生存圏科学の発展や関連コミュニティの形成への貢献
世界初の無線送電の国際学会を、日本中心に行うことにより、生存圏科学の一つである無線送電と宇宙発電の研究拠点を日本・生存圏研究所であると世界に知らしめることができた。また、現在ばらばらに活動をしている無線送電の様々な技術を一箇所で議論することで、無線送電研究者の足並みをそろえ、標準化及び実用化に向けた今後の発展を期待できる。
宇宙太陽発電所及びマイクロ波無線電力伝送は生存圏研究所のミッション 2 の中核研究である。生存圏研究所が無線送電と宇宙発電の研究拠点として、世界的な学会である IEEE (会員数約 40 万人)に認められ、今回の開催に至ったのであり、この学会の成功は、生存圏科学を広く電気技術者と無線技術者に浸透させることができた。
