Abstract

Allelopathy is an interaction between plant and plant, microorganism, insects and animals. We have screened about 5,000 plants by specific bioassays, developed total activity method for elucidation of allelochemical and reported about 30 allelochemicals. We found inhibitor for gravitropism as potential inhibitor for climbing weed, such as Kudzu.

We found hairy vetch (Vicia villosa) as practical crop for agriculture. Recent CREST project, Dr. Akifumi Sugiyama (RISH, Kyoto Univ.) as a research director under the title of “Elucidation of rhizosphere chemical world for the regulation of crop robustness”, we found hairy vetch play an important role in the robustness of rhizosphere by producing specific allelochemicals.
