On-site training: Wind and temperature observations using the Equatorial Atmosphere Radar

Oct 14-17, 2008 at Equatorial Atmosphere Radar (EAR) Observatory in West Sumatra

This is a practical seminar and experiment for atmospheric radar observations in the form of on-the-job-training (OJT). The participants should attend the Lecture series 1 "Cloud science and radar observation of the atmosphere"

Place: Equatorial Atmosphere Observatory, Bukit Tinggi 26100, West Sumatra, Indonesia

Purpose:

To learn principles of radar observation and to practice signal processing for radar atmospheric sciences

Tropospheric observations using EAR
- Wind profiling
- Turbulence observation
- Radio-Acoustic-Sounding-System (RASS) observation of temperature

[Oct 14] 15:00-17:00 Field tour of EAR site

To understand the practical method of EAR observation, field tour of EAR site is given. The other instruments installed at the site is also explained.

[Oct 15] 9:00-12:00/13:00-17:00 Data analysis excise

The participant takes an excise to analyzes wind velocity data observed with the EAR. The Microsoft Excel is used for the data analysis. Participants should be familiar with the Microsoft Excel before the OJT.
