目的と具体的な内容
インドネシア共和国西スマトラ州に位置する赤道大気レーダー (EAR) は、2000 度末に完成した大型大気観測用レーダーで、生存圏研究所では 2005 年 10 月から EAR とその関連設備の全国国際共同利用を行っている。EAR は 2011 年に完成から 10 年を迎えるため、10 周年を記念して、ジャカルタで国際シンポジウムを開催し、EAR を用いた研究成果について報告・議論した。
発表は口頭発表とポスター発表で構成され、招待講演を含む 17 件の口頭発表と、インドネシア人若手研究者を中心とする 34 件のポスター発表が行われた。また、発表内容を記録に残すため、シンポジウム当日に予稿集を配布した。後日、査読付のプロシーディング集を印刷・刊行する予定である。
なお、本シンポジウムに先立って EAR 10 周年の記念式典が挙行された。インドネシア研究技術 (RISTEK) 大臣、鹿取克章駐インドネシア特命全権大使（島田順二公使による代読）、澤川和宏文部科学省研究振興局学術機関課長、塩田浩平京都大学理事・副学長をはじめとする賓客からの祝辞を得た。
生存圏科学の発展や関連コミュニティの形成への貢献
本シンポジウムは、生存圏研究所が掲げる 4 つのミッションのうち、主としてミッション 1 「環境計測・地球再生」に、一部ミッション 3 「宇宙環境・利用」に関連するものである。生存圏研究所では、生存圏科学の重要地域の一つとして低緯度赤道域に注目し、大気科学の分野において、長年に渡ってインドネシアとの研究協力を進め、赤道大気レーダーを設置しインドネシア航空宇宙庁 (LAPAN) との協力のもとで運営している。本シンポジウムでは、赤道大気レーダーを中心として赤道熱帯域で進行中の生存圏科学に関する研究活動の活発な議論が展開された。
