研究概要

Spread of invasive ants has been accelerated by increasing international trade and anthropogenic activity, and accordingly results in much greater threats to the ecosystem stability and global sustainability of the earth. The goals of this project are 1) to establish one of the world leading genetic database for monitoring global invasion routes and pathways of widespread invasive ants, 2) to assess risk of the invasive ants utilizing information derived from the genetic database (e.g., pathway analysis), especially for regions tightly connected by intensive trading network like East Asia and 3) to develop an integrated management framework for forecasting the potential invasion of ants

To explore the utility of such genetic database as novel advancedness of humanosphere science, the current project is to establish a world-leading genetic database to monitoring, assessing and forecasting the risks of invasive ants (mainly for the two ecosystem-destroying ant species, longhorn crazy ant and yellow crazy ant) at the global scale, with a particular focus on East Asia. By employing the database, the invasion routes and dispersal patterns of the two invasive ants can be disclosed and then transformed into invasion risks. This genetic database, once completely assembled, will be made to public as humanosphere science service (open use of database).

Data will be obtained through multiple population genetic analyses including ① phylogenetic tree; ② Bayesian clustering method; ③ NMDS grouping; ④ Approximate Bayesian Computation.
